What happens if it rains?

We will get wet.  🙂

Seriously, we run our events rain or shine, unless there is a weather event that will impact our safety. Please check the specific event page on our website, the Facebook group or join our email list to find out if an event is postponed. This is not common.

While everyone prefers a dry trackday, the main purpose of our Track Days is to teach you how to handle your motorcycle better.  If you’re out riding on the street and it rains, do you park your bike and walk home?   Of course not.

When it rains on the street, you don’t  see cars and motorcycles crashing all over the place.  This is because roads still have plenty of traction even when they are wet.  A huge part of what we teach at TTD is how to manage the available traction.  Whether it’s wet or dry, there is only so much traction available.  This means the exact same riding techniques work wet or dry.

Our recommendation is to bring your wet weather riding gear and try to have fun!  Even a day of riding in the rain is better than a day of work!

Wait, I still have a gift certificate from Tony’s Track Days. What do I do?

We will still honor track day gift certificates. If you have a credit issued by TTD, it could expire in two ways. If it is issued prior to July 31, it will expire on December 31 of that year. If it sent after July 31, it will expire a year from the date of issue. 

Can I sleep at track the night before?

Usually.  Check the event details for specifics, but generally you can come in the night before your trackdays.  Check the registration page for each trackday, as well as the track information pages,  for any additional info.

What do I do when I arrive?

Each track is a little different, but in general, you will sign a waiver at the front gate for the track.  Please read it carefully… you’re agreeing that you understand the track is a potentially dangerous area and you will not sue anyone if you fall off your bike or get hurt in any way while at the track.  Once you sign the waiver, you’ll get an armband that is good for the duration of the event.

You’ll then proceed into the track area, find a place to pit or move into your garage or carport if you rented one and get through tech.  Lots of staff members (and other riders) will be floating around if you have any questions or need assistance unloading.

How do I know if I’m definitely registered?

When signup online, you will receive a confirmation email. Cyclesmith gets the same one so you are all set. Also, if you login in before you register, you will see your dates in your account.

Does anyone take photos?

Can I use a Bike Camera to take onboard video?

Yes, but it must be securely tethered to the 2 separate places on your motorcycle.  Please review the BIKE PREPARATION page for details on securing a camera.

Can I bring guests to watch?

YES, and we highly encourage it.  It is completely FREE for your guests to come in and watch and hang out with you.  However, there are a couple of guidelines to consider.

1 – If there is a fence anywhere near the track, do not go past it (even if there is an open gate).  We have to leave some of the gates open so that cornerworkers and other staff can go on and off the track at different places.

2 – Children under 16 need to be supervised at ALL TIMES and should not be on any wheeled vehicle (bicycle, mini bikes, rollerblades, skateboards)

Can I bring my dog to the track?

Yes. The dog must ALWAYS be on a short leash.  If the dog barks a lot, please remove the pet from the garage area.

Also, please remember that the track is a very noisy place with lots of fast-paced action.  Some animals get frightened in this environment.

Can I ride in my friends group to help them?

If you and your friend are of the same caliber rider, then you can certainly ride in the same group, but it is risky to try and ride as a pair around the track.  We have instructors that are trained to do this… I suggest you approach one of them and ask for assistance.

Can my friend and I share a bike?

YES,  as long as BOTH of you have signed up.   Obviously, you will ride in different groups.  If two people are caught sharing a bike and only one has paid, you will both be banned from all future Track Days.

Will the gas pumps be open?

Gas is available at Thompson, CT all day and at certain times of the day at Palmer.  It is not available at NY Safety Track, but there is a Gas Station about 3 miles outside the track.

Do you provide Health Insurance Coverage?

NO.   Do NOT attend our events unless you have Health Insurance.   Any medical treatment you receive while at the track is included in your fee.  If you are transported to the hospital, however, the ambulance ride and costs at the hospital are your responsibility.

Will my bike insurance cover my bike if I crash?

Maybe.  The key element that lets them cover you is that our track days are NOT competitive and are NOT Race Practice.  Therefore, it is considered more like rider training.  In the past, just directing your insurance company to this website has been enough to prove your case.  Ultimately, however… this is between you and your insurance company.  The key is to make them understand that controlled track days like ours are going to improve safety and lower claims by putting more qualified riders on the road.  Having said all this, however, our experience has been that it is cheaper to pay for the repairs yourself in the long run.  Your insurance company may pay, but then raise your rates or decline you future coverage.
