New Rider Program

Help from the moment you arrive

At each trackday, a member of our staff is dedicated to helping new riders feel comfortable and prepared.  They are available to answer any questions you may have and to even help you unload your bike and get you settled.   The New Rider Coach can help you to prepare your bike for tech and make sure you feel ready for one of the most exciting days of your life to date.

You and your fellow novices will begin your day by attending a special New Rider’s Meeting where information will be presented that will allow you to have a safe and fun day.

New Riders Meeting Topics include:

  • Session Schedule
  • How to enter and exit the track safely
  • Flags and what to do when you see one
  • How you can improve as a rider

After the New Rider’s Meeting you will go back to your pit area and get ready. Your first session will be a whole follow the leader session so you can get to know the track.  Your group instructor will show you the path of travel and how to enter and exit the track safely. The pace will be appropriate for novice track riders so that you can absorb the nuances of riding on a racetrack.  Follow the Leader helps new track day riders get acclimated to the racetrack.

When your first taste of track riding is complete, you will attend a second special classroom session just for first-timers.  Your instructors will make sure your questions are answered and they will offer tips to make your day an enjoyable one.

Topics include:

  • basic reference points
  • cornering lines
  • Passing
  • how to ride smoothly

Open Sessions

Your next riding session will be an “open session” where you will ride with the rest of the beginner group.

Riders in this group may have done a few track days, but are at the beginning of their journey as track day enthusiasts, just like you. Passing rules will ensure an unintimidating experience.

Instructors will be available for more on and off track guidance.

After your first-open session is complete (and after every morning session) plan on joining the red group for their classroom sessions. We will level these sessions for beginner track riders so your learning will continue smoothly.

The Cyclesmith New Rider Program will ensure that your first time experience is a safe and enjoyable one. Come join us!

What people are saying about the New Rider’s Program:

Just wanted to thank you and the entire team. I had an amazing day and really wish I could’ve have stayed the entire weekend. From the start I felt apart of a big family right at tech check in. I usually have nerves of steel but I had to admit I was nervous, excited but nervous. You came over and personally welcomed me and I truly appreciated that. Everyone on your team here is great and the riders I met were great too. I appreciate the atmosphere you all have created you really have something good going and I plan to experience more of it. Thank you again for making my first track day amazing!- Sam H.

First EVER track days are in the books!!! It’s been 15 years since I rolled the R1 off the showroom floor… THANK YOU TDD for an AMAZING couple of days learning, (more) learning, and providing a curriculum and staff that provided a life-changing experience. Special shout out to Kerry, Gino, Clayton and Kris (and all the instructors) for your friendliness and professionalism that really set the bar on how an organization like this should operate. Next year, we’ll be back for a whole lot more! …I literally can’t sleep because I’m still living in that feeling of excitement. – Ryan K.

I just wanted to take a minute and vocalize how wholesome my entire experience was on Saturday (Red group). Everything ran like clockwork, every single person was positive and having a great time, staff was on their A-game, classroom instruction was fluid/fun/effective. No attitudes, all humility. As a first-timer, I didn’t come in with expectations, but was surprised with the environment as a whole. Paired with my own excitement, it was euphoric.
I’m sure this may be business as usual, but I know what it takes to produce an atmosphere like that. Looking forward to all future days! – Scott J.
